Press Release Recognition for 10 years joint service to Harwich’s historic archive. A Mayor’s reception was held at Harwich’s Guildhall last night to officially open Harwich Town Council’s new archive centre and to recognise 10 years of joint service by the council’s honorary archivists, Ray Plummer and Anne Kemp-Luck.The project to convert the top storey of the Guildhall into a new archive centre was recently completed and the moving of the archive into its new home coincided with the 10th anniversary of Ray Plummer joining Anne Kemp-Luck as the custodians of the archive. Mayor of Harwich, Cllr Alan Todd, says, “Ray and Anne’s knowledge, expertise and dedication are truly remarkable and we are extremely fortunate to have them looking after one of Harwich’s greatest assets. As we seek to use our history to promote ‘Historic Harwich’ the many centuries of documents that make up the archive are more important than ever.”Ray and Anne were presented with gifts in recognition of their service at the reception held in the new archive centre. “The council was delighted to recognise Ray and Anne’s service and very pleased that they now have a spacious and more fitting environment to carry out their important work,” continued Cllr Todd. “The documents that prove why Harwich is truly ‘Historic’ are in very good hands.” For further information please contact Lucy Ballard, Clerk to the Council, on 01255 507211Photo © Maria Fowler 2015
