Mayoress’ Appeal Music Quiz Night

Music Quiz Night, in aid of Harwich Mayoress’ Charity Appeal Fund at the Royal Oak Pub, Dovercourt.

‘Music and laughter at quiz night’
The Harwich Society Quiz team of Colin Perry, Wilf Rose, Mark Smith and Garry Calver ran a music quiz at the Royal Oak in aid of the Mayoress’ Appeal. Having teamed up with DJ Dave McLeod  and Dee King who ran the raffle, it was left to the 10 teams who took part to identify who was performing each of the 100 pieces of music edited together to create the quiz. With music from the 60s through to the 2000s there was something for everyone and it wasn’t long before the singing started!

Gary’s Gang showed remarkable knowledge to win the quiz with an amazing score of 92 out of 100 but, in a tensely fought battle, they only beat Quietly Confident by a single point with ‘The Maltesers’ in third place with 86. In truth, it wasn’t a tensely fought battle at all because everyone was singing, laughing and drinking too much to notice who was doing what!

At the other end of the table the ‘Nutcases’ put in a magnificent display of mediocrity to take home the coveted wooden spoon with a score of 67 out of 100. This was a great relief to ‘Chinamen’ and ‘Googlies’ who were only 3 points above them!

Most importantly, £231 was raised for the Mayoress’ Appeal and everyone had a fun evening doing it!

Thanks to the Royal Oak who provided the hall free of charge and to Cat who did a great job behind the bar. Most of all, thanks to everyone who supported the event and helped to make it such a successful and enjoyable evening.
